How You Can Participate In National Infertility Awareness Week 2024

National Infertility Awareness Week is almost here!  In 2024 this special week will be observed April 21 – 27.  NIAW is designed to bring the infertility community together to offer personal stories, support advocacy and educate your community about infertility, but it is also a great opportunity to connect.

Struggling to get pregnant can be a lonely experience, leaving many women feeling isolated in their struggle.  Choosing to participate in NIAW events, both in person and virtual, is a chance to connect with others who understand and can offer support and encouragement.  This sense of community can be incredibly empowering while navigating the challenges of infertility.

Here are some ways you can participate in NIAW 2023

Tell Your Story
The theme for NIAW 2024 is Leave Your Mark – You can use your story to change the way we talk about infertility and let others know they are not alone.  There may be someone else with a similar story to your who is feeling painfully alone right now but reading your experience can offer them hope.  Be sure to use the NIAW hashtags like #NIAW2024 and #LEAVEYOURMARK as well as tag @Resolve to join the conversation.

Get Involved
Check out the Resolve.org website or your local chapter’s page to learn about events in your area – both online and in person.  Attend a Walk, a support group, or one of the several online webinars Resolve is offering during the week.

Wear Orange
On Wednesday, April 24, be sure to wear your orange to show your support of NIAW.  Post a photo of yourself, with family, or with friends and share why infertility awareness is important to you.

Advocate For Fertility Support
NIAW is a perfect opportunity to educate yourself about fertility support in your local area.  Call on your local lawmakers to support legislation that impacts those who are struggling to build their families.  If your employer doesn’t offer fertility benefits, use this week to talk to them about increasing coverage. Share your personal story to show the importance of increased family building options.

Resolve.org can help you prepare for these conversations with advocate training resources on their website

Show Your Support
If you personally haven’t been affected by infertility, this week might inspire you to learn more about fertility struggles and how it affects your loved ones or others in your community.  Take a look at websites such as Resolve.org or ASRM, read a blog post about someone’s personal story, or consider a new way to support your loved one who is currently receiving fertility treatment.  Even a small gesture, such as sharing a NIAW post on social media can show your friend how much you care.

This is just one special week, but these are ways we can voice our support for infertility awareness all year long.  Contact me, if you are looking for more ways to connect with others in your community or would like to discuss how coaching can alleviate those feelings of loneliness and isolation.
